Over the past few months, furniture retailers like HR and Home items have dipped their toes into the hospitality business, and now Home Depot is joining them with the launch of its luxury vacation rental in the Berkshires.
The home improvement retailer has partnered with Vrbo to revamp a four-bedroom, six-bathroom home on Lake Laurel in the scenic mountains of Berkshire, Massachusetts. The Home Depot outfitted the space with furniture and decor from its in-house brands Home Decorators Collection, StyleWell, and The Company Store, as well as upgrades using its building materials.
The private home not only serves as a showroom for The Home Depot’s furniture and decor brands, but also acts as a house of sorts for rental property owners looking to upgrade their properties.
“Because the home is privately owned, The Home Depot has worked closely with the property’s hosts to add intentional upgrades to the home to enhance the guest experience and demonstrate the transformative power of the Home product. Depot Home,” said Corinne Bentzen, General Manager, Home Depot Home. “The Berkshires’ home renovation allowed both brands to show how easy and achievable home updates can impact travelers and homeowners.”
The Home Depot enlisted design influencers Holly and Brad Lauritzen of Our Faux Farmhouse, Fariha Nasir of Pennies for a Fortune and Danielle Guerrero of Our Nest on Powell to revamp the entryway, patio, kitchen, living areas and the guest rooms of the house.
“The influencers were selected to give their followers the know-how to tackle home projects with confidence,” Bentzen said. “It was also important that each one of them had different experiences and points of view, but also that they highlighted the women’s point of view on DIY (or decorate it yourself).
Influencers used products from The Home Depot reflecting three trends: timeless decor elements, color pallet and functional spaces + cozy living. For timeless decor elements, the team combined modern styles with traditional looks such as vintage-inspired wallpapers and lighting alongside contemporary ones. furniture. Behr’s 2023 Color of the Year, Blank Canvas, emphasized the balanced color palette, with its creamy white tone serving as the backdrop for a neutral palette accented with pops of bright color. And the functional spaces + comfortable living vibe were achieved by creating cozy and inviting spaces in the home with textiles and other accessories.
The Home Depot Berkshires Vrbo home is available to the public for rental now, with current rates of $528 per night.
Hospitality has become a priority for several homeware companies over the past year. RH recently opened a boutique hotel in New York called RH Guesthouse, and HomeGoods launched its limited-time rental in the Hudson Valley, dubbed the House of HomeGoods, in October.
Bentzen said The Home Depot’s goal with this project is not only to inspire home visitors to improve their own spaces, but also to send the message to rental property owners how much improvements can be lucrative.
“With the renovation of a Vrbo vacation home in the Berkshires, the brand wants to show just how much of an impact these easy and achievable home updates have bedding and throws to functional seating – maybe,” she said.
