This cocoon-shaped hotel in Japan introduces you to mountain and agricultural life

Located on a mortar-shaped hill in the Kurkku Fields of Kizarazu City, Chiba Prefecture in Japan is “Villa Cocoon”. Villa Cocoon brings mountain and agricultural life to hotel guests and invites them to experience such a life for the duration of their stay. The hotel is inspired by the concept of “cocoons”, in which butterflies and moths stay for a few days, then come out fully blooming with magnificent wings. The same concept has been applied to the hotel, where guests are encouraged to come, stay and rejuvenate with the simple life of the mountains and agriculture.

Designer: Takato Yoshida of ikken

The property consists of expanses of greenery dotted with six cocoon-like rooms that take up little space. The rooms are surrounded by trees, shrubs, plants and different types of vegetation. The rooms are further connected to a restaurant, kitchen lounge, and sauna, which function as common areas where guests can interact and connect with each other. The interiors of the room feature massive windows that provide an almost canvas-like view of the surroundings, truly giving the eye-perfect visual! White walls and wooden furniture accentuate the minimal aura of the room, while the balcony curves outwards to give the room its cocoon shape.

The exciting part of Villa Cocoon is that guests can harvest their own food! Guests are encouraged to forage for their own food, picking and gathering ingredients that grow on the farming site. They are also encouraged to cook their own meals using the ingredients they have collected. Of course, for those who can’t cook or don’t want to cook on vacation, there’s a nice cafe where light meals are served throughout the day. Guests can also visit the restaurant where local mountain products are used to prepare the dishes.

The kitchen is highlighted by a long island which is accompanied by high chairs. It forms a single line, which creates a common space ideal for connecting with each other. Impressive windows mark the living room from the kitchen, giving guests a view of swaying native trees as they enjoy their meals.

After a sumptuous and organic meal, guests can stop at the Finnish sauna to relax and burn some calories. Villa Cocoon will open November 24, 2022. Mark the date, in case you plan to visit!
