By Express press service

BENGALURU: Ahead of the holiday season, Walmart-backed e-commerce company Flipkart launched its new hotel booking feature, Flipkart Hotels, on Tuesday. This comes more than a year after Flipkart acquired travel booking portal Cleartrip.

Flipkart said customers can book hotel rooms at 3 lakh domestic and international hotels. Backed by Cleartrip’s API (application programming interface), Flipkart Hotels will benefit from Cleartrip’s understanding of customers and travel industries.

Available on the Flipkart app, Flipkart Hotels aims to provide enhanced service to its customers. With a surge in demand – both in the domestic and international accommodation market – the travel industry has been gaining momentum in recent months.

“New travel trends like exploring lesser known destinations, work, long stays and vacation rentals are becoming mainstream. These developments are giving a boost to the travel industry. Given last quarter’s 70% growth compared to a CAGR of 60% over the past two years, the next festive quarter should be even better for the entire travel industry,” Flipkart said.

Recently, the e-commerce company launched Flipkart Flights. Adarsh Menon, Senior Vice President of Flipkart, said, “Flipkart Flight has been on a steady growth path in the travel industry since we entered this space. With Flipkart Hotels, we reinforce our commitment to providing a better experience and superior service to our guests across the metros and beyond.
