A guest isn’t entirely convinced that the new Disney experience is worth the high asking price.
While many exciting things are happening at Walt Disney World Resort, like the upcoming TRON roller coaster at Magic Kingdom or Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT, none quite compare to the level of hype and ambition of the new Disney Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser.
Part of the Star Wars: An expansion of Galaxy’s Edge which opened in 2019 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, this state-of-the-art hotel is billed as an incredibly immersive experience, allowing guests to live their own lives star wars adventure aboard the Corellian-made Halcyon star cruiser.
Filled with interactive experiences like lightsaber training as well as a fully interactive deck, the Starcruiser offers star wars fans the ultimate immersive experience. This experience, however, comes at a fairly high cost. The cheapest option available to passengers is $4,809 for two occupants in a single cabin on a two-night voyage. The price for four guests drops to just under $6,000 for the same duration, which means you’ll need a lot of Galactic Credits or know a bounty hunter or two to get you a stay on this ” luxury ship.
Due to its high price, the Starcruiser was the subject of controversy from the outset, with many calling it overpriced and not worth its price tag. Disney released a “sneak peek” of the hotel, which was met with so much negativity that Disney chose to erase the video from the internet entirely.
Since the official opening, however, we’ve seen plenty of fans fall in love with the experience, thinking it was a true love letter to fans of the franchise. Others weren’t entirely thrilled with it, and recently a guest went into detail about what disappointed them.
A detailed article shared online recounted one guest’s experience with this brand new hotel/resort and sadly pointed out many disappointments they had with the expensive excursion. Here is a summary of what they had to say about their trip:
Coming off the freeway, you take an exit and you are immediately behind the scenes. We stopped at a parking lot which is basically at the back of Batuu. We were greeted with two shipping containers that said Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser. After waiting in our car for valet and outside in a line at the terminal, it took us over an hour to board the shuttle to take us to space. They offer you bottles of cold water while you wait, but if you have kids I highly recommend bringing snacks.
It was finally our turn to go to the shuttle and the screens during the ride didn’t work, so we never really took off into space. The screens stayed sunny the whole time.
At check-in they told us not to take our outfits because our bags would be waiting for us when we arrived. This was not the case. It took about an extra hour for our bags to arrive. We didn’t change the terminal as it was quite hot that day in our suits would have been too much to wear in the heat.
After lunch we had problems with our datapad communications and the reception staff were rather ignorant. We waited and waited and the missions never appeared. We finally started asking guests how to get missions and they explained some things to try. When we finally got assigned activities that night it started late so we arrived late for dinner because we were stuck in an activity.
Later that evening we were assigned more activities and went to where we were supposed to be, the person we were supposed to meet never showed up. It left a large group of us wondering what happened. When we went to the customer service desk they had no idea and told us to move on to our next assignment.
When the next mission started, it was late. They started talking about things we were supposed to hear about in the mission that they didn’t. Which left the storyline very empty. I went back to customer service and told them how upset and frustrated we were because nothing seemed to work as expected. They said they were sorry but there was really nothing they could do.
The food was great but the main reason we went there was to feel like we were in a Star Wars movie and we didn’t feel that way at all. During our stay there was also no WiFi, which was an issue for some of the other guests. Luckily we had no service issues during our stay.
We also found out after the fact that they were supposed to set up a photographer with a photo pass, but we never encountered any of them. We paid extra for the private photo shoots, but we haven’t gotten those photos back yet. These are 30 minute sessions and they cost $99.
From our experience, I don’t think the star cruiser is worth it at this time. I know it just opened, but I really thought Disney would fix some of these issues. If things had worked out a little better and on time, I think we would have had a much better experience.
As you can see, the guest shared several issues they encountered aboard the Starcruiser, ranging from small detail-oriented things to bigger issues like the lack of Wi-Fi. The Galactic Starcruiser is still in its infancy, officially opening just a few months ago and while the future looks bright, there still seem to be a few issues to be resolved.
