A charming French Caribbean hotel is back in St Barths

St Barth is an unparalleled island, an impossible Caribbean alchemy of the Côte d’Azur.

And now, one of the island’s most devoted Riviera inspirations is back.

The Tropical Hotel in St Jean, which had been closed since Hurricane Irma, has officially reopened with a brand new look that is the very essence of French Caribbean chic.

The 23-room hotel is located in the heart of St Jean, just up the hill from Nikki Beach, in a lush garden setting with spectacular views of St Jean Beach.

It is a resolutely colorful place to stay, with a slightly Caribbean and Riviera atmosphere.

And that extends to the menu, which has a mix of Caribbean and southern French influences: think fresh pasta, mahi-mahi in a cilantro-lime sauce, paillard squid and a decadent Caesar salad with fresh eggs.

Be sure to try the Old Fashioned Tequila.

The property is home to a small and very nice pool deck (with spectacular views of the Caribbean Sea) and a charming restaurant and bar, the latter housing the only Old Fashioned Tequila on the island.

Each of the rooms and suites is unique, with an emphasis on pastel colors and vintage furnishings.

The aesthetic is quirky, cool and playful, one that takes you to another age, with a nice mix of inspirations that range from Palm Beach to Saint Tropez, timeless and fun.

It’s one of St Barth’s best kept secrets – and a major novelty in St Jean.
